Towne’s Inside Story: Nurse Madeline’s Journey from the Philippines to New Jersey
Every Filipino nurse’s journey to the United States is different. Some experience long waiting periods, visa retrogression, and uncertainty before finally reaching their goal.
For Nurse Madeline, what made the biggest difference was having an employer that continued to support her throughout the process. In Towne Kids’ Inside Story, she shares how she moved from the Philippines to New Jersey with her husband and two children and why she believes choosing the right employer matters.

Why She Chose Towne Kids
Madeline signed with Towne Kids in August 2022 because of its competitive employment package and direct hire opportunities in New Jersey.
She also shares one important lesson for nurses who are still comparing employers: always read your employment contract carefully. Ask questions, understand every detail, and never sign until everything is clear. According to Madeline, transparency from the beginning makes the entire journey much smoother.
Overcoming Visa Retrogression
Like many Filipino nurses pursuing an EB-3 visa, Madeline’s deployment was delayed by visa retrogression. Instead of feeling forgotten during the waiting period, she remained connected through regular communication, online training, and continuous support from the Towne Kids team.
Rather than treating retrogression as lost time, Towne Kids helped her stay prepared for deployment while waiting for her priority date to become current.
Training Before Working in New Jersey
Before starting work, Madeline completed Towne Kids’ training program, which included pediatric online learning, simulation lab sessions, and orientation for home care nursing in New Jersey.
Since pediatric home care differs from hospital nursing, the training helped her build confidence and prepare for the responsibilities she would face on her first assignment.
Relocating with Her Family
Madeline’s journey became even more meaningful because she moved to New Jersey with her husband and two children.
Towne Kids assisted her family with important transition steps, including finding housing, enrolling her children in school, and understanding health insurance. Having consistent work hours and stable income also gave her family financial security during their adjustment to life in the United States.
Advice for Filipino Nurses
Madeline encourages nurses preparing for the NCLEX to stay positive and focus on effective test-taking strategies instead of becoming overwhelmed by the exam.
She also recommends connecting with nurses who have already relocated to New Jersey. Learning from their experiences can provide valuable guidance and make the transition much easier.
Can You Request a Different Patient Assignment?
One concern many nurses have is whether they can request a different patient assignment.
According to Madeline, if a nurse feels that a patient’s needs do not match their experience or skill set, they can discuss the situation with Towne Kids. The goal is to create the best match for both the nurse and the patient, helping ensure quality care while supporting the nurse’s confidence.
Support Beyond Deployment
For Madeline, Towne Kids’ support did not end after arriving in New Jersey.
She continues to enjoy a stable schedule, reliable income, and ongoing guidance from the same employer that supported her throughout the immigration process. Looking back, she believes that choosing the right direct hire employer made all the difference.
